Today is an important milestone for the residents of Herdwick Fold and our neighbours on Shepherd’s Gate.

Taylor Wimpey’s contractors Shannonside have laid the final road surface on Herdwick Fold.  The pavements are also finished.

It’s been a long time coming.  It’s over two years since the last property was sold on Herdwick Fold.  That said, we are aware of other sites where residents have had to wait much longer.

We believe that the Residents Association committee has made a difference in pushing things along.  There was a time when a problem with the Nason Way and Hands Place junction was holding everything up, with the two developers (Taylor Wimpey and United Living) pointing the finger at each other.  Following our representations and discussions with all parties, including Warwickshire County Council (WCC) there was a renewed focus on getting things moving again.  Now we are finally over the finishing line.

What’s left to do?

There are a few things left to finish off.  The drains need to be checked to make sure they are not clogged with debris; the road-sweeping machine needs to go round and a few street name signs are missing.

On Nason Way between the Hands Place and Bradley Drive junctions there is a section of road that is effectively a speed bump and this will be highlighted with white paint.

Now that we have a smoother road we hope that drivers will not be tempted to go too fast.  Should we be talking to WCC about having a 20 mph speed limit, as they have on the nearby Cala Homes development?  Tell us what you think.

The storage compound at the back of the site (see image) needs to be removed with the area landscaped, and a nearby French drain needs to be connected.  A small number of properties on Nason Way experienced flooding damage because this drain was not working properly and Taylor Wimpey have promised to put this right.

If you spot anything else that has not been finished off please let us know.  Contractors will probably be with us for another two to three weeks so it would make sense to mention things to them before they leave the site.

Adoption of roads and pavements by WCC

Residents on Herdwick Gate are closer to getting roads and pavements adopted than those on Herdwick Fold.  Herdwick Gate is on track to hopefully get adoption some time in 2026.  For Herdwick Fold further inspections are necessary before we start the 12 month monitoring period that is required before final adoption.
