Background
The name Shipston-on-Stour comes from the town’s long association with sheep. You can’t miss them; they are everywhere - images on ‘Welcome to Shipston’ road signs, we have Sheep Street in town and lots of real sheep in some of the local fields.
Historically this place was known as “Sheep Wash Town” as farmers would bring their sheep to the River Stour to wash them.
So it is fitting that we should be living on Herdwick Gate and Herdwick Fold because the Herdwick is a hardy breed of sheep most commonly found in the north of England.
The closest Herdwicks we found are in Upper Slaughter - if ewe see some closer to us than that please let us know!
